Prof Jumanto getting along with Michael Haugh, Brown & Levinson

The 19th International Pragmatics Conference (IPrA 2025) was successfully held at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, from 22 to 27 June 2025. The conference brought together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from around the world to discuss the latest developments in pragmatics—the study of language in use and communication in social contexts. With the theme focused on language, interaction, and global diversity, the event featured keynote lectures, plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and hundreds of parallel paper presentations covering areas such as discourse analysis, conversation analysis, sociopragmatics, intercultural communication, applied linguistics, cognitive pragmatics, and new directions in pragmatics research.

The conference served not only as a forum to present cutting-edge research, but also as an international networking hub that fostered interdisciplinary collaboration between academics, educators, and graduate students. Participants also enjoyed various cultural and academic exchange activities, including campus tours and an official conference reception showcasing Australian hospitality. The success of IPrA 2025 reaffirmed the conference’s role as a major global platform for advancing the understanding of language in real-world interaction.
